Dangerous Liaisons
Musikdrama in two acts, based on the novel by Choderlos de Laclos.
An intricate and salacious tale of love and intrigue. It has inspired five movies and hundreds of theatrical productions, and now for the first time the Budapest Operetta Theatre presents it as a musikdrama, featuring exciting and original music by Adrián Kovács. The story is well-known: Marquise de Merteuil and Vicomte de Valmont support each other in their endeavour to corrupt naive souls and ruin their reputations, until one day they turn on each other and their relationship becomes dangerous, even lethal. What is the secret of the novel? It depicts the driving forces of attraction, seduction, corruption and pleasure, the shades of human gullibility and duplicity and the battle of the sexes so deeply and vividly, that we constantly feel that these ladies and gentlemen, cloaked in delicate fabrics and words, embody our own emotional struggles and shortcomings. This adaptation uses the intimate space of the Emmerich Kálmán Hall (formerly the Moulin Rouge cabaret) as its stage and scenery.
