How does Mária Lebstück, an eighteen-year-old girl dreaming of love, become a hussar lieutenant of the War of Independence of 1848? What happens when we add wonderful music and songs, exhilarating dances and lots of humour to her adventurous life, all infused with the excitement, faith, and never-ending desire for freedom of the 1848 Revolution? Inspired by history, the operetta of Jenő Huszka and László Szilágyi presents a dynamic story full of twists and turns, starting from the outbreak of the Revolution in Vienna and leading up to the Hungarian War of Independence, in two acts at the Budapest Operetta Theatre.
