Carmen
In a small Spanish town, an engagement is being held: Mayor Mendoza, the local mayor, is marrying off his daughter, Catarina, to José Rivera. However, the event takes an unexpected turn when a traveling circus troupe, led by Carmen, arrives. The passionate, wild, and unrestrained nature of Carmen drives José mad, so much so that he is willing to give up his previously stable life for her. Frank Wildhorn's musical, directed by Zsolt Homonnay, presents the eternal, seductive passion of women and the instinctive and insatiable attraction between men and women, all set in a 21st-century, extravagant environment. The new, domestic premiere at the Budapest Operetta Theatre uniquely combines dramatic musical theatre with the elements of a spectacular show, focusing on the circus as a genre and stage environment. The overwhelming music sweeps everyone away, just like Carmen did with José…
