Stephen, the king

Levente Szörényi - János Bródy

THE COMPANY OF THE BUDAPEST OPERETTA & MUSICAL THEATRE PRESENTS A COOPERATION WITH THE ZIKKURAT THEATRE AGENCY

Stephen, the King is the story of a family dispute. Following the death of Prince Géza, his son is set to succeed him. However, citing old traditions, his uncle Koppány also gathers huge crowds in his own support. With foreign backing, Stephen could strengthen his position, but a bloody confrontation is unavoidable. Generations have grown up with Levente Szörényi and János Bródy’s legendary musical, they know the songs by heart. Director Kriszta Székely’s new arrangement searches for a novel interpretation of the classic story. Instead of the historical background, the stress in this performance falls on the archetypal human factors, exploring such fundamental questions as: What means can we deploy in the interest of victory? What principles shall we sacrifice for political purposes? Does power precedeeverything else in importance?

The author’s rights are held and vouchsafed by the Zikkurat Theatre Agency and the Melody Ltd.

The show is displayed with English subtitles.

We wouldlike to draw your attention to the fact that due to the special setting of the performance, the English subtitles are only partially visible from the upstairs auditorium, please take this into account when purchasing tickets.
